Fire Near Lidl in Puerto del Carmen Quickly Brought Under Control
A fire broke out yesterday afternoon near the Lidl supermarket in Puerto del Carmen, prompting a rapid response from emergency services across Lanzarote.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 pm in an outdoor area close to the supermarket’s warehouse and storage section. According to local reports, plastic materials caught fire, producing thick smoke visible from nearby roads and businesses.
Firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium attended the scene alongside Civil Protection volunteers, the Guardia Civil, and Local Police from Tías. Emergency crews acted quickly to stop the flames from spreading toward the main Lidl building.
Witnesses reported seeing firefighters cooling the exterior walls of the supermarket with water before using foam to fully extinguish the blaze. The swift intervention helped prevent major damage to the store and surrounding commercial area.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed, although early reports suggest that combustible plastic materials stored outside the premises may have contributed to the incident.
Puerto del Carmen is one of Lanzarote’s busiest tourist destinations, and the fire attracted attention from residents and visitors in the area. Traffic around the supermarket experienced temporary disruption while emergency services worked to secure the site.
Local authorities praised the coordinated efforts of firefighters and emergency personnel for bringing the situation under control so quickly.
