Firefighters tackle kitchen fire at Arrecife home in Maneje
A fire at a home in the Maneje area of Arrecife was brought under control by firefighters on Saturday night after flames broke out in the kitchen. No injuries were reported.
Emergency crews from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium were called to a property on Calle Guanarame, in Maneje, Arrecife, at around 10pm on Saturday, 29 August after a fire was reported inside the home.
The fire is understood to have started on a ceramic hob in the kitchen. The occupants reacted quickly by closing the kitchen and leaving the property, while neighbours also assisted by using a fire extinguisher to help reduce the flames before the firefighters arrived.
The blaze caused damage to the extractor fan, kitchen furniture and part of the ceiling, while smoke spread through the kitchen and into the hallway. Firefighters extinguished the remaining flames using both sprayed and jet water before ventilating the property and making safe areas of damaged plasterboard and furniture.
Emergency personnel also helped the occupants collect essential belongings, allowing the family to spend the night with relatives while the property was dealt with.
No injuries reported in Arrecife house fire
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. The quick decision by the occupants to leave the property and the assistance provided by neighbours helped while emergency services were on their way.
The incident is a reminder for both Lanzarote residents and visitors staying in holiday accommodation of how quickly a kitchen fire can develop. Cooking appliances should never be left unattended, and anyone discovering a fire should prioritise getting outside and contacting emergency services rather than putting themselves at risk.
This Arrecife fire was dealt with by the island’s emergency services without any reported casualties.
