Firefighters tackle vegetation fire close to homes in Costa Teguise
Firefighters were called to Costa Teguise on Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out in dry vegetation close to residential properties, with flames also affecting several trees.
The incident happened in the Avenida de Las Palmeras area of Costa Teguise, where the fire was burning in open ground close to a number of occupied properties.
The Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium responded to the incident at around 12:22pm, with firefighters finding that the flames had spread through dry scrub and were also affecting trees in the area.
Firefighters worked quickly to bring the situation under control, using water both in a concentrated jet and as a spray to tackle the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Once the fire had been completely extinguished, crews carried out checks of the area before bringing the emergency operation to an end.
No injuries reported
There have been no reports of injuries linked to the incident, and the information released so far does not indicate that any homes were damaged by the fire. The flames were contained to the vegetation and trees in the affected area.
The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly dry vegetation can catch fire in Lanzarote, particularly during periods of hot, dry weather. Although Lanzarote’s landscape is largely arid, areas containing dry grass, scrub and trees can provide fuel for a fire, particularly when they are close to homes and roads.
Costa Teguise firefighters respond quickly

For residents and visitors, the advice during any fire in Lanzarote is to keep away from the affected area, follow instructions from emergency personnel and avoid blocking access routes needed by fire engines and other emergency vehicles.
Anyone who spots a fire or another emergency in Lanzarote should call 112 as soon as possible.
