Lanzarote Expecting a Change in Weather From Tomorrow

Lanzarote is in for a noticeable change in the weather this Friday, 9 October, as autumn finally makes its presence felt after a long spell of warm and settled conditions.

A yellow weather alert has been reported for Lanzarote for Friday, with rain and the possibility of storms expected to affect the island. The wetter conditions are forecast to be more noticeable in the north and northeast, with some of the heavier showers possible later in the day.

According to the latest AEMET information available today, Friday is expected to bring a mixture of clearer periods and showers. At El Reducto in Arrecife, AEMET is forecasting a clearer morning followed by showers during the afternoon, with light to moderate winds, slight seas and a maximum temperature of around 28°C.

Why is Lanzarote seeing rain in October?

The change is linked to a more unsettled weather pattern developing over the Canary Islands. Meteorologists have been watching a trough of colder air to the north of the islands, which is helping to increase atmospheric instability and allowing more moisture to reach Lanzarote.

This is quite a contrast to the very warm weather Lanzarote has experienced in recent months. The arrival of autumn does not mean that Lanzarote suddenly becomes cold, however. Even with rain and cloud, temperatures can remain pleasantly warm, particularly during the daytime.

Where could see the most rain?

The latest forecasts suggest that rainfall could affect much of Lanzarote, but the northern and northeastern parts of the island may see more frequent or heavier showers.

That means areas such as Haría, Órzola, Arrieta and the northern slopes could experience different conditions from the resort areas in the south and southwest. Lanzarote is well known for its microclimates, so a rainy spell in one part of the island does not necessarily mean that the whole island will be wet.

What does the Lanzarote weather alert mean for tourists?

A yellow alert is the lowest level of Spain's weather warning system. It is not a reason to cancel a holiday, but it is a reminder to take extra care when weather conditions become unsettled.

If you are visiting Lanzarote on Friday, keep an eye on the latest AEMET forecast before heading out. If you have a boat trip, organised excursion, hiking plans or other outdoor activities booked, check with the operator to see whether conditions have affected the schedule.

Rain can also make volcanic and rural roads slippery, while sudden downpours may cause temporary surface water in low-lying areas. Drivers should reduce their speed and allow extra stopping distance if heavy rain arrives.

Will it rain all day in Lanzarote?

Probably not. A forecast for rain or showers does not necessarily mean continuous rainfall from morning until night.

The current AEMET forecast for Friday indicates a better chance of showers later in the day, while temperatures remain warm. Lanzarote's weather can change quickly, and sunny intervals can appear between passing showers.

The good news for holidaymakers

For anyone currently on holiday in Lanzarote, a rainy day can actually be a welcome change from the intense summer heat. The island has plenty to see and do away from the beach, including museums, César Manrique attractions, restaurants, shopping areas and indoor activities.

And for photographers, autumn showers can produce some spectacular views across Lanzarote's volcanic landscape, particularly when sunlight breaks through the clouds.

Residents should also take the opportunity to check gutters, drains, balconies and outdoor areas before the wettest weather arrives. After a long dry period, even a short burst of heavy rain can expose blocked drainage points.

Keep checking the Lanzarote forecast

Weather forecasts in the Canary Islands can change as conditions develop, particularly when showers and thunderstorms are involved. Anyone travelling around Lanzarote on Friday should check the latest official AEMET warnings and local emergency information before setting off.

For the latest Lanzarote weather updates, keep checking the forecast as Friday approaches.
