Lanzarote Weather Today: Warm Sunshine With Calima In The Air

Lanzarote is set for another warm, dry and largely sunny day today, Thursday 3 September, although there is some calima affecting the island, particularly at higher levels.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the high 20s, with some areas potentially reaching around 30°C or slightly higher. Overnight temperatures will remain pleasantly warm at around 22°C, meaning there won’t be much of a drop in temperature after sunset.

There is currently little or no chance of significant rainfall, so there is very little to disrupt beach days, pool time or outdoor plans.

Calima Returns

The main talking point today is the return of light calima.

Saharan dust is present in the atmosphere over Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, which may give the sky a hazier or more milky appearance rather than the crystal-clear blue normally associated with Lanzarote.

The amount of dust can vary considerably across the island, and conditions can also change throughout the day depending on wind direction and how high the dust is sitting in the atmosphere.

Current forecasts suggest the calima could remain a feature over the coming days, with the possibility of dust concentrations increasing towards the weekend. However, calima forecasts can change, so the situation will be monitored closely.

Warm Weather Continues

The warm weather is expected to continue over the next few days, with temperatures generally staying around the high 20s and plenty of sunshine.

Winds are expected to come mainly from the north or northeast and should generally be light to moderate. This should provide some welcome relief from the heat, particularly along exposed coastal areas.

The forecast is currently suggesting another warm weekend for Lanzarote, with temperatures potentially reaching around 30°C or more in some locations.

So, if you’re on Lanzarote today, it’s very much sun cream, water and sunglasses weather — but don’t be surprised if the normally vivid blue sky looks a little hazy because of the calima.

For anyone heading to the beach, the good news is that rain isn’t currently the concern. Heat, strong sunshine and the effects of Saharan dust are the things to keep in mind.

As always, weather and calima forecasts can change, particularly several days ahead, so conditions may vary between different parts of the island.

Lanzarote today: warm, dry, sunny and with a touch of Saharan dust in the air.
