Lanzarote Welcomes Over 1.4 Million Visitors in First Five Months of 2026 Despite Slight Dip
Lanzarote has welcomed more than 1.46 million visitors during the first five months of 2026, according to the latest tourism figures. While that represents a small 0.2% decrease compared with the same period last year, the island continues to enjoy a strong tourism performance this year so far.
For both residents and businesses, these figures highlight an important trend. Visitor numbers may have levelled off slightly after record-breaking growth, but demand for holidays in Lanzarote remains exceptionally high.
Tourism Continues to Drive Lanzarote’s Economy
Tourism remains the backbone of Lanzarote’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs across hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, excursion companies and transport services.
Although the island experienced a modest slowdown during April and May, visitor numbers are still significantly higher than they were before the pandemic. Between January and May 2026, Lanzarote welcomed around 166,000 more visitors than during the same period in 2019, showing just how popular the island has become in recent years.
March Was the Busiest Month
The figures show that:
- March was the busiest month, attracting over 325,000 visitors.
- May recorded the lowest monthly total so far this year, with just under 260,000 arrivals.
- April saw the biggest year-on-year decline, helping to explain the slight overall reduction compared with 2025.
Despite these fluctuations, the overall picture remains extremely positive.
More Than Four Million Visitors Last Year
Lanzarote ended 2025 with one of its busiest years on record. Around 3.4 million passengers arrived by air, while more than 660,000 cruise passengers visited the island through the Port of Arrecife, taking the total number of visitors to over four million.
Those numbers demonstrate why Lanzarote continues to rank among Europe’s leading year-round holiday destinations.
What Does This Mean for Tourists?
If you’re planning a holiday to Lanzarote this year, these figures confirm what many visitors already know:
- Flights remain in strong demand.
- Popular resorts continue to attract large numbers of holidaymakers.
- Booking accommodation, car hire and popular excursions in advance is still recommended, particularly during school holidays and peak travel periods.
Even with a slight slowdown, the island continues to offer the warm climate, beaches, volcanic landscapes and relaxed atmosphere that make it one of the Canary Islands’ most popular destinations.
Looking Ahead
A small drop of just 0.2% is unlikely to cause major concern. After several years of rapid tourism growth and record visitor numbers, many analysts see the latest figures as a sign that Lanzarote’s tourism market may simply be stabilising.
With excellent air connections, year-round sunshine and continued investment across the tourism sector, Lanzarote remains well placed to attract millions more visitors throughout the rest of 2026.
