MAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER SEA RESCUE AT PLAYA DORADA, LANZAROTE

A 48-year-old man was taken to hospital after being rescued from the sea at Playa Dorada in Playa Blanca on Tuesday, 20 October, prompting a response from lifeguards, emergency medical teams and local police.

The incident was reported at approximately 2.11pm, when a lifeguard at the popular south Lanzarote beach contacted the Canary Islands’ emergency coordination centre, CECOES 112, to report that a man had been brought out of the water with symptoms of drowning.

Lifeguard and emergency teams respond

The beach lifeguard provided initial assistance while emergency services were alerted. The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched both a medicalised ambulance and a basic life-support ambulance to Playa Dorada.

After assessing and treating the man, medical personnel described his initial condition as moderate, subject to possible complications. He was then taken by basic life-support ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife. Yaiza Local Police officers also attended and assisted with the emergency response.

At the time of the official report, no further details had been released about how the man got into difficulty or his subsequent condition. There was no confirmed information about his nationality, and it is important not to speculate about the circumstances.

A reminder about beach safety in Lanzarote

Playa Dorada is a well-known beach in Playa Blanca, but incidents like this are a reminder that anyone entering the sea should pay attention to local conditions and safety advice. Water conditions can change, and even confident swimmers can find themselves in difficulty.

Visitors and residents enjoying beaches in Lanzarote should:
- Check beach flags and follow lifeguards’ instructions.
- Avoid entering the water if conditions are unsafe or warnings are displayed.
- Be especially cautious when swimming alone or when tired.
- If someone gets into difficulty, alert a lifeguard or call 112. Do not enter the water to attempt a rescue unless you are trained and it is safe to do so.

Emergency number for Lanzarote

The emergency number in Lanzarote and throughout Spain is 112. Calls are free, and the service can coordinate the appropriate emergency response.

The rescue at Playa Dorada highlights the important role played by beach lifeguards and emergency teams in helping people in difficulty in the water. Further information about the man’s condition had not been made public in the official information available when this article was prepared.
