October Sunshine in Lanzarote: Warm Canary Islands Weather Reaches 29°C
Holidaymakers arriving in Lanzarote this October can still expect a taste of summer, with warm temperatures and sunny spells forecast across much of the island. Friday 16 October is set to be particularly pleasant, with the forecast for Tías reaching around 29°C, although temperatures can vary between inland areas and the coast.
For visitors staying in Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca, the general outlook is warm and largely dry. Some low cloud may affect northern parts of Lanzarote early in the day, while patches of high cloud could pass overhead. The breeze is also expected to strengthen towards the evening, so conditions may feel different once the sun begins to set.
Warm October weather across the Canary Islands
Lanzarote is not the only island enjoying above-seasonal warmth. Forecasts for Friday suggest temperatures close to 30°C in parts of the Canary Islands, including around 30°C in Antigua on Fuerteventura. Other islands will see a mix of sunshine and cloud, with a chance of showers in some higher areas of Tenerife. Conditions are not identical across the archipelago, so checking the local forecast is sensible if you are planning a day trip.
What is calima, and could it affect Lanzarote?
Light calima may create a slight haze at times. Calima is fine Saharan dust carried across the Atlantic by the wind. A light episode can make distant mountains and the horizon look less sharp, and it can sometimes leave the sky looking pale or milky. If visibility appears hazier than usual, that does not necessarily mean the weather is turning bad, but people who are sensitive to dust may prefer to take it easy outdoors if they notice irritation.
Beach days and outdoor plans
The warm forecast makes October a good time to enjoy Lanzarote’s beaches, coastal walks and outdoor cafés. Even when high cloud softens the sunshine, the sun can still be strong. Use suitable sun protection, drink water regularly and take breaks in the shade, especially during the middle of the day.
Sea conditions can vary from one stretch of coast to another. Check the beach flags and follow lifeguard advice before swimming, particularly on exposed beaches where waves and currents may be stronger than they appear from the sand. The official coastal forecast checked for Friday reported no coastal warnings in force for the Canary Islands at the time of publication, but conditions can change and should be checked again before heading into the water.
Will Lanzarote stay warm in autumn?
The Canary Islands are known for mild autumn weather, but daily conditions still vary. A warm day in October does not guarantee that every resort will reach the same temperature, and cloud, wind and calima can affect how it feels locally. For the most useful picture, check the forecast for your exact resort rather than relying only on a general Canary Islands headline.
For residents, this kind of weather is a reminder that summer-like afternoons can continue well into autumn. For tourists, it means beach time and outdoor sightseeing may still be very much on the agenda, provided plans are adjusted to the local conditions.
Before you head out, check the latest forecast from AEMET, Spain’s national weather agency, and look at local beach information if swimming is part of your plans.
