Overnight Fire Spree Damages 13 Containers and Multiple Vehicles in Arrecife

Emergency Services Respond to Series of Suspicious Fires Across the Capital

Firefighters and police were kept busy during the early hours of Tuesday morning after a series of container fires broke out across several areas of Arrecife in what authorities believe may have been a coordinated act of vandalism.

Emergency services were first alerted shortly after midnight and continued responding to incidents for almost two hours as fires were reported at multiple locations throughout the capital.

By the end of the night, a total of 13 rubbish and recycling containers had been destroyed or severely damaged, making it one of the most significant outbreaks of container fires seen in Arrecife in recent months.

Multiple Locations Targeted

The fires occurred in different parts of the city, forcing firefighters to move rapidly between incidents as new emergency calls were received.

Crews worked to contain the flames before they could spread to nearby buildings, parked vehicles and street infrastructure.

Although no injuries were reported, the material damage was considerable.

In addition to the destruction of waste containers, one parked vehicle was completely burned out after flames spread from a nearby container fire. Six other vehicles parked close to the incidents also sustained damage caused by intense heat, smoke and flying debris.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests, and anyone with information is being encouraged to contact police.

Growing Concern Over Repeat Incidents

While isolated container fires occasionally occur across the Canary Islands, incidents involving multiple locations in a single night are less common and often prompt increased police attention.

Residents in affected neighbourhoods have expressed concern about the potential risk to nearby homes and vehicles if future incidents occur.

Emergency services have praised the rapid response of firefighters and police officers, whose actions prevented the fires from spreading further and causing more extensive damage.

Public Asked to Remain Vigilant

Authorities are reminding residents to report any suspicious behaviour around waste collection points, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.

Quick reporting of fires allows emergency crews to respond rapidly and can help minimise damage to nearby property.

Investigations into the cause of the fires remain ongoing.
