Overnight House Fire in Arrecife as Firefighters Evacuate Residents
A house fire in Arrecife, Lanzarote, was brought under control overnight after firefighters were alerted by a resident who ran to the local fire station for help.
Firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium responded to a residential property in Arrecife late on Sunday evening after a fire broke out inside the home.
The incident happened at around 11:40pm on Sunday, August 23, on Calle Claudio Toledo Cabrera in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote.
Resident ran to fire station to raise the alarm
According to information released following the emergency response, the alarm was raised in an unusual but potentially crucial way.
Rather than waiting for emergency services to arrive, a resident from the property reportedly ran to the nearby fire station to alert firefighters that there was a fire inside the home.
Firefighters quickly attended the property and found that the flames were concentrated in one of the rooms.
The people inside the property were evacuated while the emergency crews dealt with the fire.
Firefighters extinguish Arrecife house fire
Once the occupants had been safely evacuated, firefighters disconnected the property’s electricity supply before beginning the firefighting operation.
The flames were tackled using both a water jet and pulverised/sprayed water, allowing the firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
Once the operation was completed, the emergency personnel spoke with the occupants and explained the situation before concluding their intervention.
There have been no reports in the information released so far of serious injuries resulting from the fire.
