Puerto del Carmen Regains All Blue Flags as Lanzarote Celebrates Beach Quality Success
Puerto del Carmen has officially regained Blue Flag status for all four of its main beaches, marking a significant boost for tourism and environmental recognition in Lanzarote ahead of the busy summer season.
The internationally recognised Blue Flag awards, granted annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), recognise beaches that meet strict standards for water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility, and sustainability.
The return of the Blue Flags to Puerto del Carmen follows efforts by local authorities to improve beach maintenance, water monitoring, accessibility, and environmental standards after the resort lost several of the prestigious awards last year.
The four beaches in Puerto del Carmen now flying the Blue Flag once again are Playa Grande, Playa Chica, Los Pocillos, and Matagorda.
Local tourism officials welcomed the announcement, describing it as an important achievement for one of Lanzarote’s most visited holiday destinations.
Puerto del Carmen remains one of the island’s tourism hotspots, attracting hundreds of thousands of British and European visitors each year. The restoration of all Blue Flags is expected to strengthen confidence among tourists looking for clean, safe, and environmentally managed beaches.
Which Other Beaches in Lanzarote Have Blue Flags?
Puerto del Carmen is not the only part of Lanzarote recognised this year. Several other Lanzarote beaches have also retained or received Blue Flag status for 2026, including:
- Playa Blanca
- Playa Dorada
- Playa Flamingo
- Playa de Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise
- Playa del Jablillo
- Famara Beach
- Playa de La Garita in Arrieta
The awards highlight Lanzarote’s continued reputation as one of the Canary Islands’ leading destinations for beach quality and environmental management.
Why Blue Flags Matter

-

Safety measures
The regained flags in Puerto del Carmen come at a crucial time as Lanzarote prepares for another busy summer tourism season.
