Second British Tourist Dies Months After Lanzarote Hotel Fall
A second British tourist has died almost ten months after suffering life-threatening injuries in a tragic accident at a hotel in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.
The 54-year-old man was one of two British holidaymakers who fell approximately six metres (20 feet) into an internal stairwell in October 2025, after a wooden balcony railing reportedly gave way at their accommodation.
The other man, aged 56, died at the scene. The second tourist was rushed to Hospital Universitario Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife, where he received emergency treatment before later being medically transferred to Wales for specialist care.
Despite months of treatment, he sadly passed away on 10 July 2026 from the injuries he sustained in the accident.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Spanish authorities, including the Guardia Civil, launched an investigation following the incident to determine exactly how the railing failed and whether any maintenance or safety issues contributed to the tragedy.
Reports indicate that a joint inquest into both deaths is expected to take place in the UK, while the Spanish investigation continues as part of the legal process.
A Rare Tragedy in Lanzarote
Although this was a devastating incident, accidents of this nature are extremely uncommon in Lanzarote. The island welcomes millions of visitors each year and has a strong reputation as one of Europe’s safest holiday destinations.
