TWO PEOPLE SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER CAR LEAVES ROAD IN TINAJO, LANZAROTE

Two people have been seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in left the road in Tinajo, Lanzarote.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, 16 September 2026, on Calle Montaña Tenesar in the municipality of Tinajo. According to information released by the Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES 112), the emergency call was received at 3:29pm.

Emergency services were quickly sent to the scene, including firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, medical crews from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and Local Police.

MAN AND WOMAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

A man and a woman were both assessed by medical staff as having serious multiple trauma.

The man was taken to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife in a medicalised ambulance, while the woman was transported to the same hospital in a basic life-support ambulance.

Firefighters were also required to help remove one of the occupants from the vehicle. The emergency services secured the area while the casualties were treated and prepared for transfer to hospital.

VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD

The vehicle had left the road and come to rest away from the main roadway, remaining upright. One of the injured people was in the rear right-hand seat and, following an assessment by the attending doctor, firefighters worked alongside medical personnel to carry out a rapid extraction.

Specialist rescue equipment was used to move the casualty safely from the vehicle before they were transferred to an ambulance.

POLICE ATTEND THE LANZAROTE ACCIDENT

Local Police officers also attended the scene. They regulated traffic around the area and began the corresponding accident report.

At the time of publication, officials had not released details explaining why the vehicle left the road.

A REMINDER FOR DRIVERS IN LANZAROTE

The incident is another reminder for both residents and visitors to Lanzarote to take care when driving around the island. Roads can change quickly from well-surfaced routes to narrower rural tracks, and some areas of Lanzarote have uneven volcanic terrain and limited roadside protection.

Anyone involved in, or witnessing, an emergency in Lanzarote should contact 112, the emergency telephone number used throughout the Canary Islands.
