Two Puerto del Carmen Establishments Reported for Allegedly Selling Alcohol to Minors During Summer Police Checks
Two hospitality businesses in Puerto del Carmen have been reported by Tías Local Police following alleged breaches involving the sale of alcohol to minors and operating outside authorised trading hours.
The action forms part of an increased police presence across the municipality during the busy summer season, when Puerto del Carmen experiences its highest number of visitors. Officers have been carrying out additional inspections in nightlife areas and around bars, restaurants and entertainment venues to ensure businesses comply with local regulations.
Increased Summer Checks in Puerto del Carmen
According to Tías Town Hall, surveillance has been stepped up in locations with large numbers of tourists and residents, particularly in areas known for their evening entertainment.
During one of these recent operations, officers identified incidents involving underage access to alcoholic drinks. Following checks, two establishments were reported for alleged offences relating to:
- Selling alcoholic beverages to people under the legal drinking age.
- Operating beyond the permitted opening hours.
At this stage, the businesses have been reported for alleged administrative infringements. The reports will now follow the normal legal process before any final sanctions are determined.
Protecting Young People
Tías Mayor José Juan Cruz Saavedra said protecting minors and ensuring businesses comply with the law remain priorities for the municipality. He added that increased policing during the summer is intended to promote public safety, responsible nightlife and peaceful coexistence for everyone enjoying Puerto del Carmen.
The council also thanked Local Police officers for their work during one of the busiest periods of the year and encouraged businesses and the public to continue supporting responsible behaviour.
What Visitors Should Know
For tourists visiting Lanzarote, this serves as a reminder that Spain has strict laws regarding the sale of alcohol to underage people. Licensed premises are expected to verify ages where necessary, and local authorities regularly carry out inspections, particularly during the summer months and festival season.
The vast majority of bars and restaurants across Puerto del Carmen operate responsibly, and these inspections form part of routine efforts to maintain the resort’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for families, holidaymakers and residents alike.
A Continued Focus on Responsible Tourism
With visitor numbers remaining high throughout August, Tías Town Hall has indicated that enforcement and monitoring will continue in nightlife areas to ensure businesses comply with licensing rules and to help create a safe environment for everyone enjoying Lanzarote.
