Vehicle Destroyed by Fire on Lanzarote’s LZ-1 Road
Drivers experienced delays on one of Lanzarote’s main roads after a vehicle was completely destroyed by fire while travelling along the LZ-1 between Tahíche and Guatiza on Thursday morning. Emergency services responded quickly to bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of other road users.
According to initial reports, the vehicle caught fire while in motion, with flames rapidly spreading until the car became fully engulfed. Thick smoke could be seen from a considerable distance, prompting emergency calls from passing motorists.
Firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium attended the scene alongside the Guardia Civil and other emergency personnel. Their priority was to extinguish the blaze, secure the area and minimise any further risk to traffic using the busy route.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of serious injuries in connection with the incident. However, the fire resulted in significant traffic disruption while emergency crews worked to extinguish the flames, recover the burnt-out vehicle and clear the carriageway before the road could fully reopen.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed. Vehicle fires can occur for a variety of reasons, including mechanical faults, electrical failures or fuel system problems, and investigations typically determine the exact cause once the scene has been examined.
Advice for Drivers
Although incidents like this are relatively uncommon, they serve as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance. Drivers should be alert to warning signs such as smoke, unusual smells, dashboard warning lights or sudden loss of power. If a fire is suspected, the safest course of action is to pull over as soon as possible, switch off the engine, move everyone away from the vehicle and contact the emergency services.
