Will Starlink Wi-Fi Arrive Soon on Flights to Lanzarote:

Keeping in touch while travelling is becoming increasingly important, and a new development in airline technology could make it easier for passengers flying to Lanzarote to stay connected in the air.

International Airlines Group (IAG), the group behind airlines including British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus and LEVEL, has announced a partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX. The plan is to equip more than 500 aircraft across its fleets with high-speed Wi-Fi, with installation being introduced progressively from 2026.

For holidaymakers travelling to Lanzarote, the change could eventually mean a better internet connection during parts of their journey, whether they want to message family, browse the web, work remotely or enjoy online entertainment.

What is Starlink Wi-Fi?

Starlink uses a network of satellites in low Earth orbit to provide internet connectivity. Unlike traditional systems that rely on satellites much farther away, this approach can offer lower latency and high speeds.

IAG has said the service is intended to provide a much-improved onboard connection, supporting activities such as video streaming, online gaming and working with cloud-based services. Iberia has separately announced that its Starlink service will be free for passengers across its travel classes.

Which airlines could benefit?

The IAG group includes several well-known airlines that serve destinations across Spain, the UK and Europe, including routes relevant to travellers visiting Lanzarote. These brands include British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus and LEVEL.

However, this does not mean every flight to Lanzarote will immediately offer Starlink Wi-Fi. The rollout is taking place over time, and the availability of the service will depend on which aircraft operates a particular flight and whether it has already been fitted with the equipment.

Passengers should check the information provided by their airline before travelling rather than assuming the service will be available on every departure.

Will the Wi-Fi be free?

Iberia has announced that its planned Starlink Wi-Fi service will be free across its cabins. IAG’s wider announcement covers the group’s participating airlines, but passengers should check each airline’s latest policy and the details for their own flight as the rollout progresses.

The introduction of faster onboard internet is particularly useful for travellers who want to keep family updated, check onward arrangements, or stay productive while travelling. It may also make longer journeys more comfortable for passengers who rely on online entertainment.

What does this mean for people travelling to Lanzarote?

Lanzarote welcomes visitors from several major European markets, and better onboard connectivity could become another welcome improvement to the travel experience. It will not change the flight itself, but it could make the time spent in the air feel more connected and convenient.

It is worth remembering that airline Wi-Fi performance can still depend on the aircraft, route, network conditions and the airline’s rollout schedule. Even when a service is installed, travellers should follow the airline’s guidance on how to connect and what activities are supported.

A gradual change rather than an overnight switch

The key point for anyone booking flights to Lanzarote is that Starlink Wi-Fi is part of a wider upgrade programme, not a guarantee that every aircraft already has the technology. As more aircraft are equipped, passengers should see availability expand over time.

If you are flying to Lanzarote in the coming months, check your airline’s website or app for the latest onboard Wi-Fi information before departure. As the rollout develops, high-speed satellite internet could become a more familiar feature of air travel to the Canary Islands.
