WOMAN RESCUED AFTER FALL ON ROCKY COASTLINE IN ARRECIFE
A woman was taken to hospital after falling on a rocky stretch of coastline in Arrecife on Sunday, 18 October, prompting a response from Lanzarote’s emergency services.
The incident happened in the La Bufona area of the capital, between the El Cable and La Concha residential areas. Reports say the woman was walking along the coast when she slipped and fell onto the rocks, suffering a painful impact to her hip and finding herself unable to get back up.
The emergency coordination centre alerted the Lanzarote Fire and Rescue Consortium at around 3.20pm. Firefighters attended the scene and assessed the woman before carefully evacuating her on a spinal board to the waiting ambulance operated by the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC), the Canary Islands Emergency Service. Medical staff then transported her to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife.
The woman’s age and nationality were not stated in the reports, and no further information about her condition was available in the initial coverage.
COASTAL WALKS IN LANZAROTE: TAKE CARE ON ROCKY GROUND
Lanzarote’s coastline is one of the island’s great attractions, but not every stretch is a smooth promenade. Volcanic rock can be uneven, sharp or slippery, particularly where waves splash over the shoreline. Even a short walk beside the sea can become difficult if someone loses their footing.
Residents and visitors exploring the Arrecife coastline should stick to marked paths where possible, wear suitable footwear and avoid climbing across rocks close to the water. Take extra care in windy conditions or when the surface is wet, and do not attempt to move someone who may have a serious injury unless there is an immediate danger.
If an accident happens in Lanzarote, call 112 for emergency assistance. Give the operator your location as clearly as possible and follow their instructions while help is on its way.
The incident is a reminder to enjoy Lanzarote’s beautiful coastal scenery while treating rocky shorelines with care.
