Woman Rescued After Near-Drowning at Los Pocillos Beach in Lanzarote
A 70-year-old woman was rescued after getting into difficulty while swimming at Los Pocillos Beach in Puerto del Carmen on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 4:30pm on Thursday, 16 July, after reports that a swimmer had been pulled from the water showing signs of drowning.
Lifeguards and members of the public quickly came to the woman’s aid before emergency medical teams from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) arrived at the scene. Paramedics assessed her condition and provided treatment before transporting her by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.
The woman was reported to be in moderate condition when she was taken to hospital.
Although Los Pocillos Beach is generally considered one of Lanzarote’s safest beaches due to its wide sandy shoreline and usually calm waters, changing sea conditions can still present risks. Visitors are always advised to swim in supervised areas, pay attention to the beach flag system, and avoid entering the water if conditions deteriorate.
Fortunately, thanks to the rapid response of lifeguards, bystanders and emergency services, the woman received prompt medical attention.
