Woman Rescued by Jet Ski After Fall in Rocky Papagayo Area
A woman was taken to hospital following a rescue operation in the Papagayo area of southern Lanzarote on Saturday, July 18, after suffering a fall in a location that was difficult for emergency teams to reach by land.
The incident happened in the rocky coastal area between Playa del Pozo and Playa de las Mujeres, two of the beaches within the wider Papagayo area near Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
According to information released by the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Security and Emergency Consortium, the woman was believed to have suffered a possible wrist fracture as a result of the fall.
The alarm was raised by a person at the scene, who informed emergency services that the woman’s location would be difficult to access from the land. Due to the terrain, a rescue from the sea was considered the most suitable way to safely evacuate her.
Woman Evacuated by Jet Ski to Playa Blanca
Emergency personnel responding to the incident used a jet ski to evacuate the injured woman from the Papagayo coastline, transporting her by sea to the dock at Playa Blanca port.
Once safely ashore, she was transferred into a Basic Life Support ambulance operated by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC).
The woman was subsequently taken to the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital in Arrecife for further medical assessment and treatment.
Difficult Terrain Around Lanzarote’s Papagayo Beaches
The Papagayo beaches in Lanzarote are among the island’s best-known coastal destinations and are particularly popular with both tourists and residents.
However, the undeveloped and rocky landscape surrounding parts of the coastline can make access challenging, particularly away from the main beaches and tracks. Saturday’s incident highlights the difficulties emergency teams can face when responding to accidents in more remote sections of the coast.
Visitors exploring Playa del Pozo, Playa de las Mujeres and the wider Papagayo area should take extra care when walking across rocky or uneven terrain and ensure they have suitable footwear, particularly when moving between beaches.
The latest rescue fortunately resulted in the injured woman being successfully evacuated from the difficult-to-access location and transported to hospital for treatment.
