Teguise Changes Halloween and Los Finaos Events in Lanzarote: New Dates for 1 and 2 November
Residents and visitors planning to enjoy Halloween in Lanzarote or experience one of the island’s traditional autumn celebrations will need to make a few changes to their plans. Teguise Council has reorganised several cultural and festive events originally scheduled for 30 and 31 October, moving some activities to 1 and 2 November.
The changes follow the three days of national mourning declared in Spain after the railway accident in Toledo. The council has confirmed that some events will go ahead on new dates, while others have been suspended or postponed until a later announcement.
For anyone staying in Costa Teguise, visiting the historic streets of Teguise, or taking a trip to La Graciosa, here is a breakdown of the revised programme.
HALLOWEEN IN COSTA TEGUISE – SUNDAY 1 NOVEMBER
The Halloween activities organised by the commercial area in Costa Teguise, which had been planned for Saturday 31 October, are now scheduled for Sunday 1 November. The council says the advertised times and locations will remain the same.
Families can take part in children’s workshops and face painting at Pueblo Marinero between 5pm and 7pm.
Those looking for something a little scarier can visit the Halloween terror tunnel on Avenida de las Rocas Blancas, close to the promenade beside Las Cucharas Beach. This attraction is scheduled to run from 5.30pm until 7pm.
The Halloween parade will then take place from 7.15pm to 7.45pm, travelling from the terror tunnel towards the Las Cucharas amphitheatre.
One important change is that the planned musical tribute to Coco has been cancelled. Visitors should not assume this performance will take place as part of the revised programme.
LA GRACIOSA: HALLOWEEN AND LOS FINAOS – SUNDAY 1 NOVEMBER
La Graciosa will also see parts of its programme move to Sunday 1 November.
The Los Finaos activities will take place at the Centro Sociocultural Inocencia Páez between 11am and 1pm. The morning is designed to introduce younger visitors to the stories and customs associated with this traditional Canarian celebration. It includes children's storytelling and a creative workshop decorating chestnuts.
Later in the day, the Halloween musical activity planned for Caleta del Sebo beach is due to begin at 5pm.
The combination gives visitors an opportunity to discover two different sides of the season: the more familiar Halloween festivities and the local traditions of remembering family members and loved ones.
LOS FINAOS IN LA VILLA DE TEGUISE – MONDAY 2 NOVEMBER
The historic town of Teguise will host its rearranged Los Finaos programme on Monday 2 November.
The evening begins at 6pm in Plaza Maciot de Bethencourt, where a workshop will show participants how to make baskets for dried fruits and nuts.
At 7pm, the parranda El Golpito will travel through the open commercial area, bringing traditional music into the streets.
The programme is scheduled to finish with Finaos siglo XIX at 8pm. This theatrical performance by Actúa7 will take place around the historic centre, offering a glimpse into how the season and its customs may have been experienced in earlier times.
ANOTHER PERFORMANCE POSTPONED
Not every event has simply been moved to a new day. The theatrical production ¡Qué diablos!, by Antonio Orellana, which had been due to take place at 6pm on Friday 30 October at the Teatro Hermanas Manuela y Esperanza Spínola, has been postponed.
A replacement date has not yet been announced. Anyone hoping to attend should check Teguise Council’s official channels for confirmation.
RELIGIOUS CELEBRATIONS REMAIN UNCHANGED
Teguise Council has also clarified that religious services will continue on their originally planned dates and at their scheduled times. The changes relate to the municipal cultural and festive programme, rather than the religious observances.
A DIFFERENT WAY TO EXPERIENCE AUTUMN IN LANZAROTE
Halloween has become an increasingly visible part of the autumn calendar in Lanzarote, with family activities, costumes and themed entertainment taking place across the island. However, the period also offers visitors a chance to learn about older Canarian customs.
Los Finaos, traditionally associated with the eve of All Saints’ Day, is a time for remembering those who have died. Customs vary between families and places, but gatherings, stories and seasonal foods such as chestnuts have long been part of the tradition.
For visitors, attending a community event can offer a more meaningful insight into local culture than simply joining a Halloween party. The historic setting of La Villa de Teguise and the close-knit island atmosphere of La Graciosa provide two very different backdrops for these autumn celebrations.
CHECK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
If you are visiting Costa Teguise, La Villa or La Graciosa over the coming days, make sure you use the revised dates rather than older event listings. In particular, remember that the Costa Teguise Halloween programme has moved to Sunday 1 November, while the main Los Finaos celebration in La Villa is now on Monday 2 November.
Event arrangements can still change, so it is sensible to check the latest information from Teguise Council before setting off. This is especially important for visitors travelling to La Graciosa, where ferry arrangements and onward transport should also be considered.
Whether you are a Lanzarote resident or enjoying an autumn holiday on the island, the revised programme still offers opportunities to enjoy family-friendly Halloween activities and discover a little more about the traditions that make the Canary Islands unique.
